What are dental veneers?

Updated May 12, 2026

Veneers are a treatment to improve the appearance of the teeth. They consist of placing thin sheets on the front surface of the teeth, improving their aesthetic appearance in terms of colour and shape. They can also fill in the spaces created by gum recession.

People who opt for a veneer treatment are those who want to improve their aesthetic appearance, particularly the colour, shape and position of their teeth. However, not everyone is suitable for this type of treatment. A professional will need to examine your case to ensure you are a suitable candidate. Patients who can undergo veneer treatment are those with good overall oral health, healthy teeth and gums, and sufficient tooth enamel.

Types of dental veneers

Veneers are thin sheets placed on the front surface of the teeth to improve their appearance, and can be made from two different materials: porcelain and composite.

Ahora mi vida ha cambiado después de unas carillas de composite que son una obra de arte. Se podría decir que mi vida ha cambiado a nivel bucal. Salgo feliz de la clínica dental.

FAQs about dental veneers

Dental veneers are thin sheets of material that adhere to the front of teeth to improve their appearance: stains, discolouration, fractures, crooked or worn teeth.

The application usually requires at least two visits. During the first, the tooth is prepared, an impression is taken and the colour is selected. At the second visit, the veneer is adhered to the tooth.

Veneers are ideal for those who want to improve the aesthetics of their smile. It is important that the teeth and gums are healthy. Always consult a dentist to confirm whether they are the right option.

Porcelain veneers can last many years with good brushing, flossing, regular dental visits and avoiding biting hard objects. Composite veneers may require replacement more frequently.

The cost varies depending on the case and material. You can consult the price list in the table above.
