What is combined teeth whitening?

Combined teeth whitening is a dental treatment that combines two procedures: one part is carried out at the clinic with the help of a specialist, and the other part is carried out by the patient at home. Its objective is the same as any other teeth whitening: to lighten the colour of the tooth enamel by several shades, eliminating stains and discolouration.

At the clinic, the specialist applies the product and then activates it with the help of an LED light or a special laser for this treatment. The patient continues the treatment themselves at home, applying mouth guards to their teeth containing a lower concentration of hydrogen peroxide for a few hours each day.

Step by step

Combined teeth whitening treatment phases

The clinical phases of this procedure do not differ from conventional treatments. The fundamental difference is that the treatment continues at the patient's home.

Oral health check

The first phase is to carry out an oral health check with the aim of detecting the presence of oral diseases such as tooth decay.

Full mouth cleaning

After ruling out possible diseases that could affect the treatment, a full mouth cleaning is carried out.

Sample taking and fabrication of mouth guards

A sample of the entire mouth is taken to check the current shade of the teeth and define the treatment to be applied. Then, custom mouth guards are made, one for each arch.

Clinic and home treatment

The clinic treatment consists of applying high-concentration peroxide, which releases free oxygen radicals that clean the tooth from the inside. It is activated with cold LED light or a professional laser and is supervised at all times by a specialist.

The home treatment consists of applying the whitening dental mouth guards for a number of hours per day as determined by the specialist, for approximately fifteen days. The concentration of the peroxide is lower than that used at the clinic and the treatment is periodically monitored by the specialist.

Review of results

Once the home treatment is finished, the patient attends the specialist's clinic again. At this point the before and after photos are compared to verify that the treatment results are as expected.

Maintenance instructions

At the end of the treatment, the specialist gives the patient a series of instructions and guidelines that they must follow to ensure the results are more effective and last for a long time.
