What are composite veneers?

Updated May 12, 2026

Composite veneers are made from a polymeric organic material that acts as a matrix and an inorganic material that acts as a filler. Their purpose is to bond to the teeth to correct enamel imperfections. The procedure for applying this type of veneer is much faster and less invasive than that for porcelain veneers, and this is one of the reasons why many patients prefer composite veneers for their aesthetic dental treatment.

Furthermore, composite veneers are highly versatile, as they are easy to manipulate and alter, meaning they can be removed and replaced if a repair is needed or part of the dentition requires correction.

Step by step

Composite veneers treatment phases

The composite veneers treatment is carried out in several phases, ranging from diagnosis and planning through to fitting and final evaluation.

1

Diagnosis and planning

The dentist makes a diagnosis of the patient's problems and carries out a treatment plan to correct and resolve these problems. During this process, the dentist ensures the patient is suitable to receive the treatment and together they choose the type of veneers to be used.

2

Preparation of the teeth

This work consists of removing part of the enamel from the tooth surface where the veneer will be applied, as the treated area must match the thickness of the veneer to be added. The preparation is much less than for porcelain veneers, where stricter minimum material thicknesses are required.

3

Veneer adhesion

The specialist adheres the veneers to the teeth with great precision. The result must fit perfectly with each dental piece to ensure the naturalness and functionality of the treatment.

4

Technical and aesthetic evaluation

After adhering all the composite veneers and assessing the aesthetic aspect, the dentist technically evaluates each piece, observing the bite and the performance of the veneers.

Victoria
